2000 Jeep Wrangler Engine Mount Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install an Engine Mount for Manual and Automatic Transmissions on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: A rubber mount with a support pad is used in the rear engine mount to connect the transmission extension housing with the rear support crossmember or skid plate. Begin by detaching the black cable from the battery, next raise the vehicle and support the transmission while removing the mount. After removing the nuts under the cushion, remove the bolts under the skid plate. Removing the nuts that pin the support cushion to the transmission support bracket allows you to take that out, as well as the bracket bolts and bracket itself. To replace the transmission support bracket for automatic models, remove both the nuts holding the support cushion in place and the structure itself, plus the bolts that connect the bracket with the transmission. For manual transmission installation, align the transmission mount bracket with the transmission and tighten the bolts to 64 Nm (40 ft. lbs.), after that, place the support cushion on the transmission mount bracket and fasten the nuts tightly up to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Place the mount to the transmission, bolt it in place and turn them until they reach 54 Nm, then position the support cushion to the mount bracket, bolt them and tighten them to 41 Nm. If you had removed the support cushion bracket from the skid plate, slide it into place and screw on the nuts and bolts, tightening them to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). For all cases, align the skid plate with the studs from the support cushion, secure the nuts and tighten them to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.), then attach the skid plate bolts to the sill and tighten them to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.). After that, lower the vehicle by removing the transmission support and reconnect the negative battery terminal.
