2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Intake Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Lower Intake Manifold on 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: When working on the lower intake manifold, let the pressure out of the fuel system, ventilate the area and do not create any fire hazards. Unplug the inlet air temperature sensor and make-up air hose, remove the air cleaner housing and give your air hose a good cleaning. Unplug the negative cable from your car's battery, take out the top part of the intake manifold and let the coolant drain out until it is below the thermostat. Disconnect the upper radiator hose and the coolant outlet connector, next remove the fuel supply line quick connect at the fuel rail assembly, wrapping shop towels around the fuel hose in case gasoline spills. First, disconnect the fuel injector harness, unscrew the oil dipstick tube from the lower intake manifold, take out the attaching screws and finally remove the lower intake manifold. During installation, cleanup the surfaces that connect the gasket and review it to see if it needs replacing. If the lower intake manifold is new, place the new seals inside and then, once you place the manifold in, tighten all fasteners to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). If you have taken the fuel rail assembly out, sit it on the intake manifold and tighten the screws to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.). After checking for any problems, plug the fuel injector wiring harness in, check the quick connects for damage and put some clean oil on the tube before connecting the fuel supply hose to the fuel rail assembly. You should install the screws for the oil dipstick tube, the upper radiator hose and the upper intake manifold. Hook the negative cable back to the battery, insert the housing for the air cleaner unit and connect the inlet air temperature sensor to the air cleaner housing, alongside the make-up air hose. Fill the cooling system and carry out the ASD Fuel System Test with the DRB III tool, as the ASD relay will remain on for 7 minutes or until you turn off the ignition or use Stop All Test.
