2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Wheel Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Wheel Cylinder on 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The first step to working on or fixing the wheel cylinder is to use a brake pedal holder to press the brake pedal about one inch, keeping it depressed to stop the master cylinder from releasing brake fluid. Lift the vehicle up and take out the rear tire and wheel assembly. Loosen the rear brake flex hose from the wheel cylinder, take out the rear brake shoe and drum and put in new ones if they are coated in grease or brake fluid. After that, remove the bolts that attach the brake wheel cylinder to the rims and carefully remove the cylinder from the brake support plate, cleaning any old sealer from the mounting areas. During installation, surround the part where the wheel cylinder and brake support plate come together with a bead of Mopar RTV, as well as any alternative and join them within five minutes so that the sealer does not become too hard. Place the wheel cylinder right on the brake assembly and tighten the bolts to a torque of 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.). Put the rear brake flex hose tube fitting onto the wheel cylinder and tighten the tube nut to 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.). Place the rear brake shoes on the brake support plate, check how well the brakes work and secure the brake drum to the rear hub. Reattach the tire and wheel assembly, with each wheel mounting nut set to a torque of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.), drive the vehicle down and remove the brake pedal holder. As required, bleed the wheel cylinder and go on a road test to confirm the brakes function like they should.
