2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Disc Parts and Q&A
Q: Is Brake Disc Refacing Essential with Every Brake Pad Replacement on 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Brake disc refacing isn't routine with brake pad replacements, except when the disc has serious scoring or warping and when delays or vibrations are felt with the brakes. To avoid too much runout, you should always use a brake lathe that mounts on the car and seats the disc on the hub and bearing when refacing. There are cast marks on the un-machined surface of every disc indicating its minimum allowable thickness and machining should stop if the disc falls below that point. Before you install the brake system, look over the discs and hub adapters and clean up any chips, rust or dirt that is present. It is important to follow the specific instructions when you use the brake lathe and machine both halves at once to achieve even results. Observe both the TIR and thickness variation requirements and work very carefully with the disc turning equipment during refacing.
