2001 Dodge Dakota Battery Tray Parts and Q&A
Q: How to remove and install a battery tray on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, remove the battery from its place and then pull the Power Distribution Center free from the rear stanchions of the battery tray. Now, take out the two screws on the side near the battery that hold the tray to the bottom support and then remove the screws at the other end that are holding the tray to the front extension of the left front wheelhouse inner panel. Take out the one screw that holds the battery tray to the left side of the radiator yoke and take out the battery temperature sensor from the drawer. Once done, remove the battery tray from the battery tray support and the front extension of the left front wheelhouse inner panel. Unscrew the one screw at the back of the tray support that is fixed to the left front wheelhouse inner part, plus the two screws that secure the front of the tray support to the left of the radiator yoke. Furthermore, take out the battery tray support from the left front wheelhouse inner panel along with the left side of the radiator yoke. Before installation, make sure the battery tray is clean, then set the battery tray support in the left front wheelhouse panel and tighten two screws on the left side of the radiator yoke to secure the tray with 11.3 Nm (100 in. lbs.) of torque. Then, place and secure the front of the battery tray support to the rear end of the left front wheelhouse inner panel using only the one screw and the same torque specification. Affix the battery temperature sensor to the battery tray, put the battery tray onto the battery tray support and left front wheelhouse panel extension and direct the sensor wiring securely. Secure the outboard side of the battery tray to the front wheelhouse inner panel with the rear screw first, then tighten remaining screws attaching inboard side of the battery tray to the battery tray support, with both to 12.4 Nm (110 in. lbs.). Secure the front part of the battery tray to the left side of the radiator yoke, inserting one screw that's tightened to 12.4 Nm (110 in. lbs.), then put the PDC back onto its stanchions at the rear and finally, put the battery on top of the tray.
