2002 Dodge Dakota Battery Tray Parts and Q&A
Q: How to remove and install a battery tray on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: The first step is to remove the battery, then to separate the PDC from the stanchions located on the back of the battery tray. Next, get rid of the two screws connecting the inboard part of the battery tray to the support, then remove the two screws on the outboard part that tie it to the front extension of the left front wheelhouse inner panel. Remove the small black screw holding the battery tray to the left side front closure panel on the radiator yoke, then remove the battery temperature sensor from the tray. With that done, lift the battery tray off the inside surface of the left front wheelhouse panel and the battery tray support. Take out the screw at the rear of the tray support that holds it to the front wheelhouse inner panel on the left and then remove both screws at the front of the tray support that tie it to the left side of the radiator yoke. Remove the battery tray support from the inner panel in front of the left wheel and from the left side of the radiator going forward. Carefully clean the battery tray, check it and set the tray support on the left front wheel panel and the radiator yoke on its left side, holding it in place with two screws tightened to 11.3 Nm (100 in. lbs.). After that, put in and fasten the one screw located in the back of the battery tray support into the front extension of the left front wheelhouse inner panel with the same torque setting as before. Mount the battery temperature sensor to the battery tray after you configure the wiring and set the battery tray along with the left front wheelhouse inner panel support onto the car. Place and tighten two screws on the battery tray's outboard side until they reach 12.4 Nm (110 in. lbs.). Then tighten the two screws on the inboard side to the battery tray support at the same setting. Insert the front of the battery tray into the leftmost side of the radiator yoke's front closure and secure it in place with one screw tightened to 12.4 Nm (110 in. lbs.). Insert the PDC unit into the four stanchions at the back of the battery tray and then set the battery onto the tray using the notches in the battery connector path.
