How to Service and Repair an Axle Shaft Seal on 2001 Dodge Dakota?

To service and repair the axle shaft seals, raise and support the vehicle and then remove the axle shaft. Pull the axle shaft seal from the end of the axle by using a pry bar. Make sure to get rid of any worn-out sludge, buildup or bumps in the axle tube bore. Tighten the seal in place correctly by having the tool touch the axle tube via Installer C-4076-B and Handle C-4735-1. On the lip of the seal, use lubricant before you secure the new axle shaft in place. When the axle shaft is installed, add and check gear lubricant, remove the support and allow the truck to settle.
