2001 Dodge Dakota Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Wheel Bearing on a 9 1/4 Axle on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, remove the axle shaft from the vehicle and then take out the seal blocking the end of the axle tube with a small pry bar. With the use of a special tool, you can remove the seal and bearing at the same moment. After that, fasten Bearing Removal Tool Set 6310 onto Adapter Foot 6310-9 and use them to take out the axle shaft bearing from the axle tube. Wash the inside of the axle bore, so any residue or rough spots are wiped away. Put in the axle shaft bearing with Installer C-4198 and Handle C-4171, so it faces the Installer and fits properly all along and in line with the axle tube. Second, add a new axle seal, using Installer C-4076-B and Handle C-4735-1, making sure the contact of the tool with the axle helps you insert the seal at the correct depth. Before you replace the axle shaft, protect the seal ring by coat it with special axle lubricant. The last step is to install the axle shaft.
