2001 Dodge Durango Antenna Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Antenna Cable on 2001 Dodge Durango?
A: First, you should unconnect the battery negative cable to begin working on the antenna cable. Access and pull the antenna coaxial cable connector apart, while twisting the metal halves, to remove the connector from the inner right cowl panel, try to avoid pulling the cable. Release the holders for the antenna coaxial cable on the inner panel underneath the right cowl and inside the right front fender. First, unscrew the top part of the antenna from the base, then remove the antenna cap using a nut wrench (Special Tool C-4816) and take the fender attachment from the antenna adapter. Run the antenna body through the mounting hole in the top of the fender. Then pull the antenna and its cable out the connection point between the front of the fender and cowl side outer panel through the front door opening. Undo the coaxial cable grommet on the right side of the cowl outer panel. Pull the cable and antenna straight out of the vehicle through the hole in the right cowl side outer panel and finally remove them. Similarly, begin by removing and isolating the negative side of the battery cable and then go under the instrument panel to unplug the antenna coaxial cable connector on the side near the glove box. For later installation, tie a well-sized cord or string to the instrument panel half of the antenna coaxial cable connector, keeping it secure. Let go of the antenna cable in the glove box and at the support bar of the instrument panel, then pull out the radio receiver from the instrument panel. Remove the antenna cable from your instrument panel, untie the twine that connects your antenna to the radio and pull the antenna cable out through the radio opening. Hold the antenna's body and cable against the outer panel between the right cowl side and fender, with the coaxial cable hanging through the front door opening. Then, pull the cable into the passenger compartment, putting the coaxial cable grommet into its hole. Place the antenna body into the mounting hole at the top end of the fender. Then cover it with the adapter and use the antenna nut tool (C-4816) to tighten its nut to 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.). Tighten the antenna mast to 3.3 Nm (30 in. lbs.) on the antenna body, engage the retainers for the antenna coaxial cable at the inner panel and in the front fender and attach the antenna cable to both retainer clips: the lower instrument panel support and the glovebox. Attach the antenna coaxial cable below the instrument panel to the right of the glove box, install the trim cover on the side of the right cowl and reconnect the negative battery cable. Attach the antenna cable's free end to the opened connector with your cord or twine before pulling the antenna cable through the under-radio receiver opening while using the cord or twine to guide it. Place the radio receiver on the instrument panel, join the instrument panel antenna cable to its retainer clip on the lower support, untangle the wire from the instrument panel side of the antenna coaxial connector and finally connect the antenna coaxial cable connector to the instrument panel outboard of the glove box.
