2001 Dodge Durango Battery Tray Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Battery Tray on 2001 Dodge Durango?
A: Before you can remove the battery tray, unplug the PDC from the stanchions situated behind the tray and take out the battery. After that, loosen the two screws that join the inboard battery tray side to the battery tray support, then remove the two screws that hold the outboard battery tray side to the front part of the left wheelhouse panel. Unscrew the little screw holding the battery tray to the front of the car at the left side of the radiator yoke and then pull out the battery temperature sensor. Gently remove the battery tray from its support and move the front extension of the left front wheelhouse inner panel as well. Start with the rear screw on the battery tray support, next remove the two front screws from the support and then come out with the whole battery tray support. You should start by clearing and checking the battery tray, then place the battery tray support onto the inner panel of the left front wheelhouse and the left part of the radiator yoke. Screw the battery tray support into place with two bolts at 11.3 Nm (100 in. lbs.) on the left side of the radiator yoke and then tighten the rear screw to the front part of the left front wheelhouse inner panel to the same degree. Attach the battery temperature sensor to the battery tray which then goes on the support and front extension, ensuring the sensor wiring is not blocked. Screw the two side screws on the outboard battery tray support and tighten them to 12.4 Nm (110 in. lbs.), then use the same torque to tighten the screws on the inboard side of the battery tray. After that, attach the front section of the battery tray to the left-side closure panel, using a 12.4 Nm (110 in. lbs.) screw. Put the PDC on the rear stanchions and adjust the battery back in its place on the tray.
