2001 Dodge Durango Belt Tensioner Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Belt Tensioner on 2001 Dodge Durango?
A: Before servicing the drive belt tensioner, first loosen the accessory drive belt. Take the wires out of the ignition coil and detach the secondary cable as well. Now use a wrench on the two bolts to remove the ignition coil from its bracket, as you should keep the bracket in place on the cylinder head. Next up, remove the nut holding the tensioner assembly to the mounting bracket and, after that, the bolt from the pulley. This will allow the pulley to be taken from the tensioner. First, join the pulley and pulley bolt to the tensioner, fastening the bolt firmly in place using 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) of force. Attach the tensioner backing plate to the bracket so the indexing tab fits into the mounting bracket's slot and tighten the nut to 67 Nm (50 ft. lbs.) torque. Attach all wires to the ignition coil again and tighten the bolts on the coil case to keep it from being harmed. Fit the coil onto the coil bracket and tighten it to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) if you are using nuts and bolts. If the bracket has been tapped, tighten the coil to 5 Nm (50 in. lbs.) by hand. Then, add the drive belt and make sure the indexing marks on it align with the vehicle's marks.
