2001 Dodge Durango Drive Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Drive Belt on 2001 Dodge Durango?
A: On the drive belt service and repair, remember that the schematics provide the latest guidelines and if there is a difference with the Belt Routing Label in the engine, use that one instead. Checking belt tension with a gauge is not appropriate on cars that use an automatic belt tensioner which is spring-loaded and the same for all belt types. First, put a socket/wrench on the pulley bolt of the tensioner and turn the assembly clockwise until the belt is loose. Pull the belt off of the idler pulley, then remove it from the device. The water pump's drive belt must be in place to avoid engine overheating due to incorrect water pump movement. Lay the drive belt on every pulley but the middle one which connects the generator with the A/C compressor. Once more, connect a socket/wrench to the bolt on the automatic tensioner's pulley and turn it clockwise so the belt covers the idler pulley. Spin the tensioner back into its original position and take out the wrench, making sure the belt lies correctly on all the pulleys. Make sure to look at the belt indexing marks as well.
