First, put the transmission in Neutral, securely raise the vehicle and then start servicing or repairing the rear propeller shaft. Drive a line between the axle companion flange and the flange yoke to ease assembly and if a center bearing and heat shield are present, draw each one on the corresponding support bracket and center bearing using a marker. First, remove the bolts from the center bearing and heat shield, then from the companion flange and slide off the slip yoke on the output shaft to withdraw the propeller shaft. When installing, place the slip yoke onto the transfer case or transmission output shaft, position and secure the center bearing and heat shield to the rear bracket if necessary and secure with bolts that are tightened to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.). Bring together the marks on the flanges, place all the bolts and tighten them each to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) before putting back the vehicle.
