2001 Dodge Grand Caravan Speed Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain a Front Wheel Speed Sensor on 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: To take care of the front wheel speed sensor, lift the car, remove the tire assembly and then remove the wheel. Remember to loosen the screws on the cable routing clamp so you can detach the wheel speed sensor, but don't damage the pins as you remove it from the harness. Remove both the speed sensor grommet and the speed sensor connector from the bracket on the strut and then release them from the vehicle wiring harness in the fender well shield. After that, take out the wheel speed sensor head mounting bolt and get the sensor head out from the steering knuckle. When corrosion causes the sensor to be seized, don't attempt to use pliers; alternatively, tap the edge of the sensor ear with a hammer and punch until it unsticks. When setting up, attach the cable from the speed sensor to the connector on the car wiring. Attach the routing clamps to the car with the bolts, set the bolts to 11 Nm (95 inch lbs.) and slide the cable grommets into the intermediate bracket on the shock absorber. The wheel speed sensor head is held in place by a bolt; tighten it to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.). Afterward, connect the wheel and tire, place the car back on its wheels, lower it and check that the brakes work by driving on the road.
