2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van Rocker Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service the rocker arm assembly on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: Before working on the rocker arm assembly, lift each spark plug wire boot out straight up toward the spark plug. Then, take out the cylinder head cover and its gasket and next get rid of the rocker arm bolts and pivots, putting them in order on a bench. Once the used oil is cleaned from the push rods, put them in order on a workbench just like you took them out. Turn the crankshaft until 1\6 is lined up with the TDC mark on the timing chain case cover which is at 147° From the best position, I aimed my rifle at the ATDC. The push rods should be attached in the same order they were taken apart, then the rocker arm and pivot assemblies are handled next, with suggestions to tighten the rocker arm bolts to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) torque. Do not turn or crank the engine immediately after you've installed the rocker arms; the hydraulic roller tappets still need time to bleed down for a few minutes. At last, attach the cylinder head cover before the last step, reattaching the spark plug wires.
