2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service the rear shock absorber on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: The first step in servicing the rear shock absorber is to raise and support the car. Remove the mounting nut and bolt from the axle bracket below, then take out the upper mounting nut, retainers and bolt to unplug the shock absorber from the vehicle. If it helps, unscrew and remove the spacer tube from the upper shock absorber eye. To install, slide the shock absorber into the axle bracket, fasten it with the bolt and secure with the nut. After that, put the spacer tube into the upper shock, line up the shock with the frame rail bracket and fasten the inner retainer, bolt, outer retainer and nut. Afterward, secure the mounting nuts of the shock absorber to 76 Nm (66 ft. lbs.). Then remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
