2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2001 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: The harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley should be serviced and repaired after stepping on the gas and removing the negative cable from the battery. After you remove the fan and fan drive, take out the accessory drive belt. After that, uninstall the vibration damper pulley and remove the vibration damper bolt and washer fixed to the crankshaft. Install the bar and the screw to the Puller Tool Set C-3688 and remove two bolts, tightening them together through the tool with washers and pulling it off the crankshaft. Install the vibration damper by putting it on the crankshaft and pressing it in place with the installing tool from Puller Tool Set C-3688. Place the crankshaft bolt and washer inside and tighten to 244 Nm (180 ft. lbs.) torque. After that, place the crankshaft pulley on the engine and tighten the pulley bolts to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.) of force. Set the serpentine belt, then viscous fan drive, fan and finally the fan shroud. Connect the negative cable from the battery to its proper place again.
