2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Lash Adjuster Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Lash Adjuster on 2001 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: To service the lifter/lash adjuster, remove the air cleaner, the air inlet hose and then the cylinder head cover. Afterward, remove the rocker assembly and the set of push rods to check where they went beforehand, so you can easily put them back in place. Wing to the intake manifold, after which take away the yoke retainer and the aligning yokes. Place the Hydraulic Tappet Remover/Installer Tool C-4129-A through the hole in the cylinder head, so the tappet head is securely seated, then pull the tappet out of the bore while rotating the tool. If you are taking off all the tappets, be sure to identify them for when they are ready to be put back. Should a tappet or a bore in the cylinder block appear scored, scuffed or has evidence of sticking, make the bore larger and set an oversize tappet. Clean the tappet using the cleaning solvent, rinse it in hot water and blow it dry with either a dry shop rag or compressed air. You should lube the tappets and then set them and the push rods in the same place they occupied before to ensure the oil feed is facing up. Adjust the aligning yokes with the Arrow on the camshaft, add the yoke retainer, tighten the bolts to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.) and then add the intake manifold. Lift in the push rods and rocker arms, reattach the cylinder head cover and then the air cleaner together with its hose. Run the engine normally at idle until the hydraulic tappets stop clicking and get quiet, as running above fast idle before that can lead to valve damage.
