2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Van Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service the front parking brake cable on 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Van?
A: Before starting on the front parking brake cable service, lift and support the vehicle and then loosen its adjusting nut to give room in the front cable. Take out the cable cable connector and squish the retainer tabs at the underside bracket to detach the cable. Drop the vehicle down and push the ball end of the cable out of the pedal clevis with a small screwdriver. After that, squeeze in at the cable housing retainer tabs on the pedal bracket to pull out the cable and then remove the left cowl trim and sill plate. Open up the carpet and remove the cable from the body clip; take out both the cable and the body grommet. Pull back the seat and access the hole on the pedal assembly through the headliner. Insert the cable housing retainer into that hole from the inside of the cab and press it in securely. Put the cable ball end into the clevis on the pedal assembly, bring the cable across the top of the wheel well and secure it using a clip. Put the cable under the floorpan and attach the grommet, then lay the carpet and reattach both the left cowl trim and the sill plate. Lift and hold up the vehicle once more, send the cable into the bracket from below and slide on the cable housing retainer. First, attach the cable to the cable connector, then perform the park brake adjustment procedure and at last, lower the vehicle.
