2001 Dodge Stratus EGR Tube Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an EGR Tube on 2001 Dodge Stratus?
A: You should first unhook the negative battery cable and pull off the air cleaner box and the throttle cable shield if you want to service the EGR tube. For the upper tube, take out the mounting screws at the intake manifold plenum and EGR valve, then handle the upper tube assembly with care so you don't lose the silicone rubber seals in the intake manifold. Always remove dirt from the gasket surfaces of the EGR valve to avoid valve leakage. Remove the battery first, then lift out the air cleaner box and finally remove the throttle cable shield for the lower tube. Take out the four bolts on the upper EGR tube at the intake manifold, the two bolts connecting the tube to the EGR valve and the two bolts on the valve side. Hold the vehicle up, remove the two bolts and lift up the lower EGR tube gasket from the exhaust manifold. Get the vehicle lower, take out the two bolts of the EGR valve to the cylinder head and remove the EGR valve. When installing, check the rubber silicone seals on the intake manifold part of the upper EGR tube and put it in place only when the seals are intact. Set a new gasket in place between the EGR valve and tube, then fasten the upper tube to the intake manifold plenum with 11 Nm (95 in. lbs.) torque and the bolts on the EGR valve to the same level. Now put back the throttle cable shield and air cleaner box and reattach the negative battery cable. On the lower tube, apply both bolts to the EGR valve, tighten the screw closest to the engine and make sure the farther screw is snug. Replace the gasket between the EGR valve and cylinder head and only tighten the bolts slightly, then put the assembly in place. Lift the vehicle a second time, place the tube where it belongs and set in a new gasket, leaving the bolts loosely placed. Screw the EGR tube to the exhaust manifold bolts with 31 Nm torque, lift the vehicle and tighten the EGR valve to cylinder head bolts with 23 Nm torque. At the end, use an 11 Nm (95 in. lbs.) wrench to tighten the EGR tube outboard screw, the upper EGR tube screws to the EGR valve and the upper EGR tube to the intake manifold. Then attach the electrical connector to the EGR valve, reinstall the air cleaner box and reconnect the negative battery cable.
