2001 Jeep Cherokee Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service a Brake Light Switch on 2001 Jeep Cherokee?
A: First, cut the negative battery cable to switch the air bag system off, then give the application two minutes to discharge. Remove the knee blocker from its place on the instrument panel. Press the brake pedal all the way down, then turn the brake lamp switch about 30° to the left to get it out of the retainer and remove it from the mounting bracket. Break the wire harness connection from the switch connector on the panel, pull the switch out of the car and unplug it. For installation, take the plunger out of the brake lamp switch body. Rearrange the connection between the instrument panel harness of the brake lamp switch and the switch connector receptacle and afterward make sure to hold the brake pedal fully applied. Put the switch locating tab in the notch on the bracket, slide the switch into the bracket and turn it clockwise around 300° to fasten it in place. Let go of the brake pedal with a maximum effort of twenty pounds, so that you don't risk damaging the power brake booster. Raise the brake pedal lightly, letting it set the switch plunger in the right place and creating a ratcheting sound as it adjusts. Next, attach the knee blocker to the instrument panel and plug the negative cable from the battery back in.
