2001 Jeep Cherokee Cruise Control Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Handle the Cruise Control Switch When Working with Airbag and Steering Components on 2001 Jeep Cherokee?
A: You should remove and isolate the battery's negative cable before starting to diagnose, remove or install any air bag system or related steering equipment. After using the system, let the system capacitor empty for 2 minutes so the device doesn't launch without intent and to avoid personal harm. The first step is to cut off the negative battery cable from the battery. After that, remove the air bag module. First remove the screw that fits inside the underside of the steering wheel where the speed control switch is installed. Second, remove and disconnect the switch itself. Plug the electrical wire into the switch, set the switch past the wheel and secure it with its screw which should be tightened to 1.5 Nm. Replace the air bag module and reconnect the negative wire from the battery.
