2001 Jeep Cherokee Wiper Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Rear Wiper Arm on 2001 Jeep Cherokee?
A: The first step to replacing the rear wiper arm is to disconnect the rear washer nozzle hose and clip from the external nipple of the rear wiper motor output shaft bezel. Lift up on the rear wiper pivot cover and get rid of its retaining nut. Manually put the rear wiper arm up so that the over-center arm hinge holds the wiper blade clear of the rear window. Gently rock the rear wiper arm pivot end away from the output shaft on the motor. Rotate the ignition switch to ON and turn the rocker for the rear wiper and washer switch OFF to ensure the rear wiper motor is parked. Should the wiper motor's output shaft begin to move, stop the car, wait for it to stop and then turn off the ignition switch. While the motor is parked, clamp the pivot end of the rear wiper arm onto the motor output shaft so that the tip is 27 to 35 mm (1.06 to 1.38 inches) below the upper edge of the lower liftgate glass seal. Secure the wiper arm retaining nut, turn it to 18 Nm (160 in. lbs.) and lower the wiper arm enough so that the blade touches the glass. After that, close the rear wiper arm pivot cover. Use a cloth to wet the liftgate glass, work the rear wiper, press the OFF button and inspect the position of the wiper arms. In the end, link the rear washer hose and clip to the outside nipple of the wiper motor bezel already mounted on the car.
