2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Battery Tray Parts and Q&A
Q: How to remove and install a battery tray on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: You need to pull the battery out before releasing the Power Distribution Center (PDC) secured to the batteries by the stanchions on the outboard side. After that, loosen the screw holding the battery tray and the support unit to the bracket near the right-side radiator support, then the screw to the right fender side cowl reinforcement and finally the nut on the right fender front wheelhouse inner panel. Loosen the battery temperature sensor, then get rid of the battery tray and the support unit from the engine compartment's right front corner. To set up the system, check and clean the enclosure and mounting area and then install the sensor to the battery tray. Set the battery tray and support unit back into the engine compartment corner, making certain all hoses and wires stay unpinched. First, tighten the nut on the inner side of the rear battery tray to the stud on the right fender front wheelhouse by 7.3 Nm (65 in. lbs.). Then, tighten the screw on the rear fender side inner cowl reinforcement to 8.1 Nm (72 in. lbs.) and finally tighten the third screw at the front of the passenger side by 8.1 Nm (72 in. lbs.). Next, put the Power Distribution Center (PDC) back onto the stanchions and slide the battery onto the cross member.
