2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Exhaust Pipe Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Exhaust Pipe on a 4.0L Engine on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: To carry out service and repair work on the exhaust pipe in a 4.0L engine, first lift and secure the vehicle, then cover the bolts and nuts in heat valve lubricant and follow this up with 5 minutes of penetration. Carefully pull the oxygen sensor from the exhaust pipe, unfasten the nuts in the exhaust pipe to the catalytic converter flange and finally disconnect from the exhaust manifold. Check each part, replace old and rusted clamps, remove any badly damaged or worn supports and put in the correct replacement parts for proper fit and reasonable exhaust sound. Join the exhaust pipe to the outlet of the engine exhaust manifold and tighten the nuts to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.). Use usual u-bolt clamps instead of the original uni-clamp. Carefully place the catalytic converter over the exhaust pipe flange connection and screw the retaining nuts until they reach 28 Nm of torque (250 inch lbs.). Australian manage regeneration use coat this sensor with antiseize, set it in place and fasten it securely to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) tight. Lower the vehicle, engine start, check for leaks from the exhaust system and check for contact between the exhaust pipes and any other part of the car's body. Once you begin operation, check the torque on the engine exhaust manifold to exhaust pipe nuts.
