2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the Fuel Rail in a Fuel System on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Neither does the fuel damper have its own service and you should always relieve the constant fuel pressure in the fuel system before servicing the fuel rail. Start by taking off the fuel tank filler tube cap and completing the Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure. Unplug the negative battery cable from the battery and take off the air tube at the top of the throttle body, unless your engine needs air cleaner ducts to be removed. To disconnect an electrical connector, push the red button, depress it down and remove the connector from the injector. A tag is put on the factory fuel injection wiring harness to show injector position. If your fuel rail studs have clip nuts, first remove those, then disconnect the latch clip and the fuel line connected to the fuel rail. If you have an automatic transmission and throttle body, disconnect the throttle, speed control and automatic transmission cables from their points in the throttle body and then remove the cable routing bracket at the intake manifold. Clear any dust or gunk from the injectors nearest the intake manifold and afterwards, take off the mounting nuts and bolts of the fuel rail. Remove the fuel rail by rocking it gently, so you can see all the space has been cleared at the intake manifold for the fuel injectors. Clean out the bore where each injector will go in the intake manifold and then add a little clean engine oil to the edges of the injectors' O-rings before setting them in place. Feed each fuel injector tip into the right insert bore and then press them into the manifold. Screw the fuel rail bolts to 11 ±3 Nm (100 ±25 in. lbs.) while making sure all the fuel injector connectors are tightly connected as well. Once again connect the fuel line to the fuel rail and secure it with the latch clip. If the pressure test port has a cap, install it now and reposition the cable routing bracket. If your car has a throttle body, reattach the throttle cable, speed control cable and automatic transmission cable and bolt the oxygen sensor wiring clip nuts to the studs holding the fuel rail. Afterward, mount the air tube at the top of the throttle body, install the fuel tank cap, connect the negative cable to the battery, fire up the engine and search for fuel leaks.
