2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Oil Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Repair an Oil Filter to Prevent Leaks and Engine Failure on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Make sure the filter you choose for your service is an SAE type 3/4 X 16 one, as using a filter with metric threads may result in oil leaks and the engine failing. Make sure to place a drain pan under the oil filter at the beginning. Take a proper oil filter wrench and loosen the filter, then turn it counterclockwise to get it off the cylinder block oil filter boss or filter adapter housing. After the filter drops from the adapter nipple, lift the gasket end up to minimize leaking and pull the filter away from the vehicle. When removing the oil filter along with the old gasket, wipe the seal area of the gasket with oil and grime. Insert a little engine oil or grease onto the oil filter gasket and then screw on the filter to the adapter nipple. Once the gasket is pressed against its surface, twist the filter by hand until it stops moving. Then, add oil, make sure the level is okay in the crankcase, turn on the engine and look for any oil leaks.
