2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Rocker Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Rocker Arm on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Removing the cylinder head cover is the starting point for service of the rocker arm assembly. Inspect the rocker arm bridges to find out if they are causing the rocker arm to point the wrong way at the valves. Turn the capscrew loose on one bridge or pivot assembly at a time by one rotation to prevent the bridges from being damaged. One by one, pull out the bridges, pivots and rocker arm pairs and place them on a bench organized the same way they were notched. After that, set the push rods down on the bench in their original way. Before putting them back in, coat the ball ends of the push rods with Mopar Engine Oil Supplement or an alternative, then reinstall them in their original location so the bottom end of each push rod is arranged centered in the tappet plunger seat. With Mopar Engine Oil Supplement or an equal alternative, spray the area where the pivot touches in the rocker arm, then install the rocker arms, pivots and bridges above each cylinder where they originally were. Loosely install all the capscrews, turn them each one turn at a time, changing the order so you do not damage the bridge and tighten them to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Now, set the engine cylinder head cover onto the top of the engine.
