2001 Jeep Wrangler Car Speakers Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace Car Speakers While Ensuring the Airbag System is Disabled on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: First, unplug the air bag by disconnecting and isolating the battery negative cable. After that, wait for two minutes to let the depressurization of the air bag system capacitor prevent accidental deployment. First, get rid of the two screws that attach the speaker bezel at the outboard end to the instrument panel. Gently work around the top and bottom edges of the bezel with a wide flat tool, making sure you trigger and release the two snap clips holding it in place and then move the bezel away from the instrument panel. Following this, unscrew the four screws holding the speaker to the instrument panel armature and move the speaker far enough so that you can get to the speaker wire connector and unplug it. Connect the speaker wire connector to the speaker and then position the speaker against the instrument panel. Install the four retaining screws and adjust them to 1.1 Nm (10 in lbs) and then put on the speaker bezel and tighten its screws to 2.2 Nm (20 in lbs). Lastly, reconnect the negative cable from the battery.
