2002 Chrysler Prowler Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Disassemble a Shock Absorber Assembly on 2002 Chrysler Prowler?
A: The first step is to remove the rear shock assembly from the car. When working on both assembly corners at the same time, mark each coil spring and shock absorber assembly for its side. Either a Strut Spring Compressor, PSE tool W-7200 or the equivalent should be used, according to the instructions provided by the maker. To help with shock removal and installation, first place the shock absorber assembly in the compressor, hooking the lower end of your shock onto the lowest coil spring and then the upper end onto the coil just below the top. Push the jounce bumper down and lift the shock absorber upward while pulling the coil spring to pull out the upper seat. Turn the compressor drive until all the tension leaves the coil spring. With the shock absorber still raised, tug back the upper hooks on the compressor and slide the shock out through the opening at the bottom of the coil spring. To pull off the jounce bumper from its side, open the slit in the side of the shock absorber shaft. Should the required outer cord be long enough, unhook the coil spring from the lower hooks of the spring compressor. Look at the shock absorber assembly and make sure there is no binding of the shaft, cracks in any components or distortion at the top and bottom seats and check the jounce bumper to see if it's worn out. Set the clevis bracket vertically in a vise, attach Adapter, Special Tool 6925 to the shock absorber so that it locks into the notch in the bottom collar and then use a ratchet or breaker bar to free and remove the shock absorber from the clevis bracket.
