  Raise the vehicle before you work on the front shock absorber. After that, get rid of the flag nut and bolt holding the shock absorber assembly to the frame's lower crossmember. The shock assembly assembly cannot come out of the crossmember without releasing the lower mounting bolt for the opposite side shock assembly as well. Loose the lower mounting bolt for the shock assembly on the side you're not working on, but don't completely remove it. Bring the car down until only the lowest point of each wheel touches the floor, then undo and remove the bolts that attach the shock absorbers to the Rocker Arm. Make sure not to take out the bolt that holds the stabilizer bar link to the rocker arm; just loosen it to help you pull out the shock assembly. After you loosen the bolt, remove the shock assembly from the rocker arm and then remove the entire assembly from your car.

  The front assembly should be taken off the vehicle before you try to break it apart. Mark the positions of the coil springs and shock absorbers separately when servicing both assemblies at the same time. You can use either the Strut Spring Compressor, the PSE tool W-7200 or another equivalent tool to condense the coil spring, following what the manufacturer says. Put the shock absorber assembly inside the compressor, with the lower loops over the coil spring and the upper ones on the fourth coil from the top to help with shock installation and removal. Move the coil spring's top at least a quarter of an inch down by depressing the upper jounce bumper and pulling up on the shock absorber to expose the cutout. Pull the compressor drive back all the way to remove the coil spring tension. When pushing up the shock absorber, pull the upper hooks on the compressor away and remove the shock through the coil spring beneath it. It is possible to detach the jounce bumper by running the shaft through the separation on its side. Take out the coil spring from the spring compressor if you need to. Check the shock absorber assembly for stiffness, damage or warping in the upper and lower seats and identify any damage to the jounce bumper, replacing anything that is worn.
