How to Service and Repair a Cigarette Lighter on 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser?

Before you start using your auxiliary power points, unplug and separate the negative battery cable. Make sure all the retaining bosses are clear inside the cigarette lighter base and use the 90-degree tips of external snap ring pliers to push them out of the base. Rock the pliers softly to free the base by extracting it from the mounting ring, cut off the base's wires, then remove the mounting ring and set both aside. To fit the instrument panel, install the mount ring and slip the wires through it, then put the cap on and align its index tab at 9 o'clock with the key before installing everything. Attach the wires to the base and set it so the base's alignment rib is at 11 o'clock. Push the platform down into the bezel so that it locks, fasten the cigarette lighter cap in place and plug back in the battery cable.
