2002 Chrysler Sebring Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Water Pump on a 2.7L Engine on 2002 Chrysler Sebring?
A: While it is typical for the 2.7L water pump to drip a faint film of coolant from its primary weep hole, a wide collection or long flow means the shaft seal has failed and the pump has to be replaced. In case the secondary weep passage lets out coolant into the engine valley, first examine both weep passages; if there is debris, clean the primary weep passage. Remove the negative battery lead, bleed the system of coolant, uncover the timing chain, remove the timing chain and all its guides, then loosen the bolts holding the water pump in place and remove both the pump and gasket. Before installing, wipe down all sealing areas, set the water pump and gasket in place and tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Set the timing chain guides and covers, the timing chain itself and attach the negative battery cable before opening the cooling system. Remember not to remove the pressure cap when the whole system is hot and running to prevent burns.
