2002 Dodge Dakota Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Faulty Passenger Air Bag on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before working on a damaged air bag, unattach and separate the negative battery cable and then wait two minutes for the air bag capacitor to discharge if the air bag has not been used. Take out the glove box module and the radio from the panel where the instruments are located. Go through the opening for the radio and disconnect the passenger air bag pigtail wire connector from the instrument panel wire harness connector. Press and pull each pigtail wire connector retainer away from the instrument panel armature. Take out the screws from the passenger air bag front and rear brackets using the glove box opening. Pull the top of the passenger air bag door away from the instrument panel, using a wide flat trim tool, to release the snap features. Take out the passenger air bag and its door together. To install the air bag, put it in its slot in the instrument panel, match the snap features with their receptacles and press down on them. Tighten both the rear and front brackets with screws to 9 Nm (80 in. lbs.). Join the passenger air bag pigtail wire connector with the instrument panel wire harness once more and make sure there is a secure fit. Engage the pigtail wire connector retainers, put the radio and glove box module in place and make sure to do the air bag test steps before hooking back up the battery negative cable.
