2002 Dodge Dakota Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Reinstall a Camshaft Position Sensor Without Removing the Distributor on 2.5/3.9/5.2/5.9L Engines on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: You can remove the camshaft position sensor from the distributor without pushing out the distributor itself on all 2.5/3.9/5.2/5.9L engines. Take off the air cleaner assembly and release the negative battery cable after. After that, unscrew the two screws on the distributor cap and release the camshaft position sensor wiring harness from the main engine wiring harness. Slide off the distributor rotor from the distributor shaft and then lift the position sensor from inside the distributor housing. To fit the camshaft position sensor back into the distributor, position it where the notch also is and then plug the wiring back into the connector. After you have reinstalled the rotor, place the distributor cap in place, secure it with the mounting screws and finally put the air cleaner back on.
