2002 Dodge Dakota Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Air Bag Control Module on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: To take care of the air bag Control Module, first ignore the negative cable from the battery, then allow two minutes for the system capacitor to drain. Do not disturb or kick the air bag Control Module and if you accidentally strike it or drop it, it needs to be replaced because the impact sensor inside controls air bag deployment. Loosen the screw that holds the floor duct adapter to the heater-air conditioner and remove the adapter after that. Roll the carpet back against the sides of the rear transmission tunnel to reach the air bag Control Module. Take out the two screws holding the module to the mounting bracket on the right, then take out the two screws holding it on the left. Hold the module up so the locator pins release and then move the module so you can access the connector for the wire harness. Slide the red Connector Position Assurance lock to the right, depress its tab and pull the connector out to disconnect the instrument panel wire harness. First, place the new air bag Control Module below the instrument panel. After that, reattach the wire harness connector and ensure the locks on the latch and CPA are completely hooked. Match the module with the bracket and check that the locator pins click in place while the arrow on the label points in the forward direction. Put the screws in the mounting bracket on both sides, tighten them to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.), place the carpet back, insert the floor duct adapter onto the heater-air conditioner housing and tighten the screw to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.). Do not put the negative cable of the battery back on until you have finished the air bag system verification test.
