2002 Dodge Dakota Ball Joint Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Ball Joint on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: The first step is to raise and secure the vehicle and then come off the wheel and tire. After that, remove the caliper mounting bolts and free the brake hose bracket from the arm. Place a hydraulic jack under the arm of your truck and lift the rebound bumper off. Release the cotter pin and nut from the top ball joint, then attach the Remover MB-991113 and separate the upper ball joint from the steering knuckle to avoid harming the seal. Pull out the control arm after removing both control arm pivot bar mounting nuts. Set the pivot bar adjustment bolts as they were when the vehicle was assembled, then put the control arm pivot bar on the bolts, install the nuts and tighten to 210 Nm (155 ft. lbs.). Instead, place the steering knuckle onto the upper ball joint and tighten the nut to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.). After that, add a new cotter pin. Screw the brake hose bracket onto the arm, put the front caliper bolts in place and tighten them to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). Afterward, install the wheel and tire, support the vehicle briefly, lower it and make sure the front alignment is correct.
