2002 Dodge Dakota Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Steering Knuckle on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: For steering knuckle servicing and repairs, lift and support the vehicle and subsequently remove your tire and wheel assembly. After that, remove the disc brake caliper, rotor, shield and ABS speed sensor. Disconnect the tie-rod from the steering arm and remove the stabilizer link, before getting to the hub/bearing. After supporting the lower suspension arm, separate the ball joint from the knuckle by first removing the nut and using Remover C-4150A. After removing the upper ball joint nut, carefully use Remover MB-991113 to break the ball joint free from the knuckle without hurting the seal. After that, fix the new steering knuckle to the upper or lower ball joints, secure the nuts (lower-127 Nm, upper-81 Nm) and insert the two cotter pins. Add back the hub/bearing, take away the lower support for the suspension arm and attach the ABS speed sensor, brake dust shield, rotor and caliper. Then, add the stabilizer link, link up the tie rod to the steering knuckle arm, install the wheel and tire, get rid of the jack support and bring the vehicle down slowly.
