2002 Dodge Dakota Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Harmonic Balancer on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before working on either the balancer or the pulley, remove the negative cable from the battery. After removing the fan and the fan drive, take out the accessory drive belt. After that, unbolt the vibration damper pulley and remove the bolt and washer from the crankshaft end. Use the bar and screw from the Puller Tool Set C-3688. Insert two bolts with washers through the puller tool into the vibration damper, then pull it off the crankshaft. Place the vibration damper near the center of the crankshaft before pressing it tightly onto it with the tool from Puller Tool Set C-3688. Screw in the crankshaft bolt and washer, tightening it to the specified torque and afterward place the crankshaft pulley and tighten its bolts to 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.) torque. Reattach the serpentine belt, commencing with the fan and fan drive, then install the fan shroud and only then plug the negative battery cable back in.
