2002 Dodge Durango Alternator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Alternator on 2002 Dodge Durango?
A: Make sure to isolate the system by unhooking the battery's negative cable before beginning alternator service or repair. Take out the generator drive belt and pull the plastic cable protector cover off the B+ mounting stud. Later, take out the three fasteners holding the generator, then arrange the generator so you can reach the wire connectors. Unlock the holding nut on the B+ terminal at the back of the generator and then take off the terminal. Remove the generator from your car after pushing the field wire connector tab and pulling the connector out. When installing the generator, join its field wire to the generator's rear and attach it to the engine. Attach the B+ terminal to the generator mounting stud and turn the nut until the tightness is 12 Nm (108 in. lbs.). Screw on each of the mounting fasteners to the required torque which is 55 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) for the vertical and long horizontal bolts and 74 Nm (55 ft. lbs.) for the short horizontal bolt. Rotate the generator drive belt into the proper path so the engine does not get too hot and then set the cable protector cover onto the B+ stud. At the end, reattach the negative wire from the battery.
