How to Service the Rear Cigarette Lighter Outlet on 2003 Dodge Durango?

First, you should disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable before touching the rear cigarette lighter. Open the liftgate and dig under the D-pillar trim where the left rear cup holder assembly was installed to find the back of the rear cigarette lighter. Look for the holes in the base of the receptacle where two rectangular retaining bosses are placed and fitted onto the D-pillar trim. Put the tip of your external pliers on the bosses and squeeze firmly. Then use a side to side movement to rock and pull the base from the holder. Using a bit of pressure from behind the lighter may assist in taking out the base. Take the cigarette lighter mount out from behind the D-pillar trim after you have removed the panel. When installing, place the mount onto the power connector with the splines on the bottom of the lighter lining up with the grooves inside the mount back. Depress the receptacle base until you feel its retaining bosses locking in place. Put the protective cap into the cigarette lighter receptacle, snap in the cup holder above the door and finish by plugging in the car's negative cable.
