Q: How to Replace the Air Bag Control Module in a Six-Passenger on 2002 Dodge Intrepid?
A: First, open the hood and disconnect the remote battery post's negative cable from the remote battery terminal to replace the Occupant Restraint Controller in six-passenger vehicles. Open the door on the glove box, push the side tabs and slide it down. Be sure to remove the Instrument Panel before you work on a Concorde. Lift out the left endcap from the junction block, remove two screws from the steering column cover and slide the cover to the back end of the vehicle so the clips come loose. Push down the glove box door until it comes open, then you will see screws in the upper left and lower left sides. Once you take out the instrument panel center bezel, the temperature control module, power outlet and traction control switch will come off at the same time. Separate the connectors in the center bezel, then disconnect four screws on the right two connection points and the left two. Open the floor panel by losing one screw and one push fastener holding the floor bin in place. Since the ORC is now visible, pull the red CPA tab out, push the locking latch down and release the ORC 23-way connector. Loosen the two screws on the side modules on the driver's side and lift up on the top screw. Pull the module toward you and remove the ORC; if the ORC doesn't come out, loosen the screw that's on the passenger side even more. When installing the new ORC, it should be placed so the arrow on the bracket is facing forward and fit well on the mounting bosses. Secure the ORC onto the bracket with the three screws supplied, tightening them between 88 and 124 in. lbs. (10 and 14 Nm). Bolt the driver side top screw all the way, put in the side module mounting screws on both sides, then connect the ORC 23-way connector, pushing in the red CPA tab. Before going on, make sure you mount the Instrument Panel if you are working on a Concorde. Set the floor bin with a single screw, then use a push fastener, then four screws to affix the Chin bezel. Reattach the connectors to the center bezel, snap the center bezel into place and add screws to both of the upper left corners before closing the glove box door. Lastly, put the screws into the steering column cover and into the left end cover at the junction block. Do not link the battery negative cable remote terminal to the air bag system until it has been tested and checked.
