2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Drive Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Drive Shaft on 2002 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: First put the transmission and transfer case into neutral, then raise and support the vehicle to work on the front propeller shaft. Take out the exhaust crossover and mark a line segmenting the axle companion flange from the propeller shaft flange yoke for when you install the pipes. Afterward, unscrew the companion and dust boot clamp bolts from the end of the C/V joint and then pull the propeller shaft out. Put the propeller shaft in line with the marks, bolt the transfer case companion flange with a tightening torque of 30.5 Nm (22.5 ft. lbs.) and after that, secure the axle companion flange with a torque of 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.). If you have a skid plate, secure it, lower the vehicle and make sure the bike is working properly by doing a road test.
