2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Washer Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Washer Pump Without Detaching the Reservoir on 2002 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: The unit can be removed from the washer reservoir under the hood without taking out the reservoir, first disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. After that, take out the washer hose from the red barbed nipple that's part of the washer pump/motor unit, so the liquid can be saved for reuse. Take the right headlamp and dash wire harness connector out of the motor connector receptacle. Grab the top of the washer pump/motor housing and very gently pull sideways to free the snap post from where it fits in the reservoir. Reach into the reservoir and extract the washer pump/motor unit far enough to pull the barbed pump inlet nipple out of the grommet. After that, disconnect the washer hose from the other nipple and grab the unit to disengage it from the back of the reservoir. Get rid of the rubber grommet seal. Before threading the washer pump, fit a new rubber grommet seal into the mounting hole at the bottom of the washer. Set the barbed tip of the washer pump nipple into the rubber grommet seal and squeeze the hose gently until it rests in place. On top of the motor housing, move the snap post into the opening in the washer reservoir and press down until it fastens. Attach the reservoir line back to the outlet nipple on the washer and screw on the dash wire harness connector into the motor connector receptacle. Put the pre-drained fluid back in the washer reservoir, attach the negative battery cable and then shut and latch the hood.
