2002 Dodge Ram 3500 Battery Tray Parts and Q&A
Q: How to remove and install a battery tray on 2002 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: First, get the battery out before you pull the battery tray out. While taking out the left battery tray, do not forget to pull off its temperature sensor. After that, take out the two screws with washers attaching the outboard side of the tray to the fender shield. Up in the engine compartment, remove both nuts with washers that attach the rear of the battery tray support to the top wheelhouse studs. Afterward, inside the wheelhouse in the front fender, unscrew the two nuts and remove the washers at the front of the battery tray support mounted to the studs in the wheelhouse underpanel. In addition, from inside the wheelhouse, remove the plate that hooks the battery tray support to the front wheelhouse inner panel. Finally, tear out the battery tray and the stud plate that hold the battery tray support, together from the front wheelhouse inner panel. Should your vehicle have the speed control package, remove the speed control servo from its place at the left battery tray's support area. Always start by cleaning and looking over the battery tray for any debris. If you have installed the vehicle speed control package, place the speed control servo on the left tray support for your batteries. After that, attach the stud plate to the front face of the battery tray support. Assemble the battery tray and stud plate on the front wheelhouse inner panel, coming from the engine compartment as one. Within the front fender wheelhouse, comfortably screw on the two nuts and washers that attach the front of the battery tray support to the studs beneath the wheelhouse panel. Connect the plate which secures the rear of the tray, to the underside of the inner panel for the front wheelhouse. Security nuts should be loosely installed on the top of the front wheelhouse inner panel, attaching the rear side of the battery tray support to the nuts with washers from the engine compartment. Tighten the two screws on the outboard side of the battery tray to the inner fender shield by turning them to 15.8 Nm (140 in. lbs.). Use a wrench to screw in the four nuts with washers that hold the battery tray support to the studs in the front wheelhouse inner panel to 15.8 Nm (140 in. lbs.). Fix the temperature sensor onto the battery tray as you place it, then connect the battery on top of it.
