Start by lifting the vehicle on jack stands or a frame contact type hoist and taking off the tire and wheel to service and repair the lower control arm. Loosen and remove the nut from the outer tie rod end while you hold the tie rod end stud with an 11/32 socket. Use MB-991113, the Remover, Special Tool to remove the tie rod end. After that, take the cotter pin and castle nut off the bottom ball joint, with nothing between the steering knuckle and the ball joint. Turn the steering knuckle so it faces away from the car and pound on the boss of the steering knuckle with a hammer until it breaks free from the lower ball joint, always being mindful not to damage the lower control arm or the grease seal around the ball joint. Remove the shock absorber clevis, lower control arm bushing nut and thru-bolt and then unfasten the stabilizer bar link nut while holding the stud with an Allen wrench. Take out the hardware holding the stabilizer bar bushing clamp to the suspension crossmember and let the bar hang away from the control arm. Take out the nuts and bolts connecting the front and rear control arms to the front suspension crossmember to make sure the control arms stay level and won't bind. To remove the front isolator bushing, separate the lower control arm, then press it out with Bushing Remover, Special Tool 6602-5, using Bushing Receiver, Special Tool MB-990799 on Special Tool C-4212-F. The rear isolator bushing can be removed in the same way, using the Bushing Remover (Special Tool 6756), the Special Tool C-4366-2 and the Bushing Receiver (Special Tool 4366-2). To press out the clevis bushing, fit Bushing Remover 6877 into Special Tool 6876 on Special Tool C-4212-F and use Bushing Receiver 6876. Use Bushing Installer, Special Tool 6876 when replacing the front isolator bushing and see to it that it is flush with the lower control arm. Use the same process for the rear isolator bushing with Bushing Installer, Special Tool 6760. For the clevis bushing, thread it into the rotary frame by hand and then press it until flat. To put the lower control arm back in, guide the rear into the front of the crossmember, then the front, hold it with bolts and nuts, but don't tighten the front bolt yet. Turn the rear attaching nut and bolt to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.), connect the lower control arm ball joint stud into the steering knuckle and tighten the castle nut in place. Secure the tie rod end onto the steering knuckle and tighten the nut so it registers 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) Use a torque wrench to tighten the lower control arm ball joint stud castle nut to 74 Nm (55 ft. lbs.); then, slot the cotter pin through the stud and clip it. Attach the sway bar link and hold it in position, then tighten its bushing clamp mounting screws to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Secure the bar link to the lower control arm by tightening them to 102 Nm (75 ft lbs.). Screw the clevis partly into the bolt where the bushing is and watch that the jack stand is not directly below the ball joint cap. Reduce the vehicle's suspension so both the jack stand and the lower control arm hold the weight, then set the lower control arm bushing thru-bolt nut to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.) and the front lower control arm nut and bolt to 182 Nm (135 ft. lbs.). Mount the wheel and tire assembly back onto the car, screwing the wheel stud nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) as shown. The last step is to remove the jack stand, examine the car's alignment standards and change the front toe if required.
