How to Replace the Rear Drive Shaft on 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Before replacing the rear propeller shaft, put the vehicle up on safety stands and, if needed, move the transmission and transfer case to neutral. For reference, draw a straight line across both ends of the axle pinion yoke and propeller shaft yoke before installing anything. Take out the bolts of the universal joint clamps on the pinion yoke and remove the slip yoke from the output shaft. After that, take off the propeller shaft. When installing, put the slip yoke onto the output shaft of the transmission or transfer case, line up the reference marks made on the propeller shaft and pinion yoke. Set the universal joint into the pinion yoke, screw in the universal joint clamp with the bolts and tighten them to 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.). To finish, let down the vehicle.
