2002 Jeep Wrangler Exhaust Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How Do Exhaust Valve and Intake Valve Seat Refacing Specifications and Procedures Differ on 2002 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Both intake and exhaust valves have a face angle between 43-1/4° and 43-3/4° and a seat angle between 44-1/4° and 44-3/4°. Examine the space left around the refaced valve; valves with residual margin under 1.190 mm (0.047 inch) ought to be replaced. Un-shrouding the valves should be avoided during valve seat refacing. Replacing valve guides should only be done with the correct guide pilot to achieve a true and full surface. Check how straight the valve seat is by using a dial indicator; it should have a maximum total indicator reading of 0.051 millimeters (0.002 inches). To see if the valve seat is making contact, paint it with Prussian blue, place the valve in position and rotate it gently. If the blue appears in the middle of the valve face, contact is good. If the transfer happens at the upper edge, apply a 15° stone to decrease the valve seat; if it's at the lower edge, add a 60° stone to increase it. For intake seats, we use a range of 1.016mm to 1.524mm (0.040 inch to 0.060 inch) and for exhaust seats, a range of 1.524mm to 2.032mm (0.060 inch to 0.080 inch).
