2002 Jeep Wrangler Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2002 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Remove the flywheel or converter drive plate to get access to the main bearing seal; remember to dispose of the old bolts along the way. Loosen the seal from around the crankshaft flange so that you don't damage the crankshaft. After that, clean the seal's contact surface on the crankshaft well and add a small bit of oil to the outer edge of the new rear main bearing seal. Place the seal as directed and push it down with the install tool to make sure the felt lip inside the flywheel mounting area faces the seal, saving the flywheel from ripping it. After that, replace the flywheel or converter drive plate with new bolts and turn them until they reach a torque of 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.), then add an extra 60° turn.
