2002 Jeep Wrangler Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2002 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before starting to repair or service the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley, take out the negative cable from the battery. Remove the serpentine drive belt and fan shroud after that, then take out the bolt and washer that hold the vibration damper in place. Remove the Vibration Damper Removal Tool 7697 to take off the damper connected to the crankshaft. Before installation, place a small amount of Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant on the keyway in the crankshaft and then slide the key into place. Put the key in the keyway and then push the vibration damper against the crankshaft key. Screw in the vibration damper retaining bolt and washer, with a torque of 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.). After that, fit the serpentine drive belt and adjust it according to the guidelines, then reconnect the negative battery cable.
